Uganda Trip 2017 – Days Nine to Twelve

July 24, 2017

After a slight shock to the system with the early breakfast and departure, we set off from Kampala for our 3-day safari in and around Murchison Falls and the national park. After what seemed like hours (and literally was hours), we arrived at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for an amazing opportunity to walk with the rhinos who are being cared for in the sanctuary. Sadly there are no rhinos in the wild in Uganda due to decades of poaching, but the Ziwa sanctuary is seeking to increase the number of rhinos in the country before progressively releasing them into the national...

Truro School students take Stargaze Theatre back to Edinburgh Fringe

July 21, 2017

The popular Stargaze Theatre is returning to Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year as a group of students prepare their new production, ‘Boy in a Bottle’. Described as a ‘comedy with an edge’; it is a production about a young boy who washes up on a beach in a life-sized glass bottle in a small, secluded coastal town. As the bottle is found, the locals argue what to do but when he starts to sink into the sand and the sea starts to rise, can they save him – or even...

Designed exclusively for Truro School’s visit to Uganda, the Kampala Challenge is an opportunity for students to complete a range of tasks under the guidance of local guides, ranging from the educational, to the sublime and, quite frankly, the...

100 Words House Writing Competition 2017: The Final Results

July 6, 2017

Earlier this term, we pitched our brand new writing competition – the 100 Words House Writing Competition 2017. The children were set the challenge of writing 100 words or fewer. Even better, they could write about absolutely anything they liked. We were looking for talented writers - children who could make their story stand out by turning a good idea into something extraordinary. July 4, 2017

On Friday, we were treated to a drinks reception and Question Time event in the theatre of the Wellcome Trust - a panel of journalists, politicians and academics took some really challenging questions from the schools present and the timbre was set for the weekend: be bold and clear; question authority; don't hide behind a stance of 'taking offence'; respect your opponent and keep the debate going. We then had a speech-writing supper with Ollie Dobbs (older brother of Chloe, who reached the finals of the Cambridge Debating competition last year) before retiring to our UCL...
