1st XV in Last 16 for Third Successive Year

1st XV 22 – 3 Richard Huish

On Friday 10 January, the 1st XV rugby team powered through to Round 7 in the NatWest National U18 Cup with a 22-3 win against Somerset outfit Richard Huish College.

Starting strongly and playing with great pace, Truro went into an early 5-0 lead with a very well taken try in the corner by South West player Dan Rutter. Richard Huish immediately replied with a penalty following the restart to narrow the score to 5-3.

Truro continued to take the game to their opponents and added a further try by captain and South West player Locryn Williams, following a well-rehearsed lineout drive. Fellow South West player Will Whitworth added the conversion from wide out to give Truro a 12-3 half-time lead.

After the interval, Truro scored further tries by No.8 James Rowe and prop Nat Warren to earn the side a home tie against Stowe School from Oxfordshire in the last 16 of the competition.

Graham Whitmore, Director of Sport, said: “I was pleased with the performance, considering the side had not played in over a month. We were a little inaccurate at times and gave away too many penalties, but we dominated possession and our defence was superb. We now look forward to the Stowe game and the possibility of repeating last season’s feat of reaching the quarter-finals of the competition.”

The match is scheduled to be played before the end of January. Head to the Fifteen Rugby website for more information.
