Windsurfing – Inlands and North Sea Cup Report

It has been a busy half term for our talented windsurfers here at Truro School.

Inlands Round One

Round one of the Inlands was held on May 23-24 hosted at Whitwell on Rutland Water, a long five hour drive from Cornwall. Two windsurfers from Truro school attended, Lachlan Ross from the Second year and Finn Hawkins from Year one.

The boys excelled themselves in the first round of the season with Finn finishing 1st and Lachlan 4th in the under 15 age group. The exceptional start means that both boys have secured a place in next year’s RYA National Junior Squad.

North Sea Cup – Round Three

At the end of the event Finn went on to join the National Junior Squad at Grafham Water for a three day training session and then on to Wimereux in France for the third round of the North Sea Cup. Wimereux is always a very competitive international event with over 50 competitors in the Techno Class and some of the fastest junior windsurfers in Europe.

The forecast for the weekend looked challenging with high winds and a big swell set to make racing difficult! After a long day of racing with four heats completed, Finn was Under 15’s bronze medalist in 3rd place, 10th overall (across all age categories).

Sunday dawned with 35kt winds and poor visibility which meant no racing, an early prize giving and a long trip home.

Finn (GBR 3116) and Lachlan (GBR 3145) in action.
