Girls’ Hockey Summary – 26 September

A summary of this weekends Girls’ Hockey matches.

U12 Hockey Match Report – Truro School v Mount Kelly (Saturday 24th)

The team, captained by Evelyn Heather and having only played together less than a handful of times before, played really well and enjoyed the experience despite the narrow defeat. As is always the case at the beginning of a season, the excited girls needed the first ten minutes to settle in. Towards the end of the first half they were shaping up nicely and played some lovely hockey. Some excellent team work lead to the first goal, scored by Anya, but an injury to key player and captain Evelyn early into the second half shock the girls confidence and they conceded from a short corner just before Evelyn returned to the field. From here on in the girls stayed strong and worked hard but unfortunately could not hold on to the draw on this occasion with a second goal for Mount Kelly going in just before the final whistle. Women of the match – Eloise Baker who having never played in goal before did a sterling job saving a number of Mount Kelly attempts.  The girls go again on Wednesday against Penrice.

Mount Kelly v Truro School 1st X1 girls – lost 3-5

Truro started off well driving the ball, creating space but did not maintain their structure and got dragged into some scrappy play. Amy E scored a lovely goal from a penalty corner and we finished the first half 1-2. In the second half we had quite a lot of positional play but needed to mark opposition more tightly. Mhari scored another goal followed by Amy E but we let Kelly College counterattack finishing on a 3-5 at the end of the match.

Duchy Development XI v Truro School 1st X1 girls – won 3-1

This was an evenly matched game with both sides generating chances to score. The first goal was created by Amy E who sent a great pass through to Kitty who showed great composure as she slotted the ball into the goal. Duchy struck back with a good counterattack making the most of some poor marking at the back. The discipline of the defence tightened up after this and was much better for the remainder of the match. Truro regained the lead with Beth finishing a well worked penalty corner, before Scarlett scored the final goal with some good rebound work.

U15 vs Mount Kelly 1-1

This was a much improved performance from the U15 girls. They are beginning to keep their structure and this is resulting in more efficient ball movement throughout the pitch. The girls will continue to train hard in working to ensure that they can clear the ball out at a 16 and reduce the effectiveness of the oppositions press.
