


All pupils entering Year 4 will continue with the RE short course that they commenced in Year 3. They will sit Paper 1 (Luke’s Gospel) in the summer of 2005 and Paper 2 (Christian Perspectives) in the summer of 2006. There is no coursework.
Paper 1 (Luke’s Gospel) consists of a textual examination and discussion of three topics:
(1) “Jesus the Messiah”: (Birth and Infancy Narratives; the Baptism and Temptations of Jesus; Peter’s Declaration of Faith, and the Transfiguration, Passion, Resurrection and Ascension Narratives).
(2) Christian Life”: (Teaching on Good and Evil and Suffering; the Concepts of Self –sacrifice and Service; Wealth, Women and Outcasts).
(3) “The Nature of Christian Discipleship”: (Teaching about the Cost of Being a Disciple; Parables about Prayer and the Parables of the Sower, Good Samaritan, the Lost Sheep and the Lost Son).
Paper 2 (Christian Perspectives) comprises of a study of three areas of personal, social and moral education from both Christian and Humanist perspectives:
(1) “Relationships”: (Marriage and family interpersonal life; Issues of Parenting; Divorce and Remarriage and Caring for Relatives).
(2) “Prejudice, Justice and Equality”: (Biblical Teaching, Exploration of Case Studies (e.g. apartheid and Martin Luther King).
(3) “Life and Death Issues”: (The Sanctity of Human Life: Birth Control and Contraception; Fertility Treatment and Embryology; Abortion, Suicide and Euthanasia).
Sex and relationships education, together with drugs education, will be taught during two blocks of RE lessons by Mrs King during Year 4 within the unit of work on “relationships”.
A Careers programme will be taught by Mr Worthington in Year 5.
