Truro School has a fine reputation for its sporting achievements at county, regional and national level and the school takes great pride in offering a broad range of sporting opportunities for all pupils, irrespective of their abilities.
The most important aims of a school sports programme is to cover the needs of all boys and girls and giving the opportunity to unlock potential and maximise performance. Truro School is well blessed with sporting facilities and a group of knowledgeable and enthusiastic coaches who work tirelessly to make this happen. One of the great strengths of the school is that almost half of the teaching staff assist with the coaching of our youngsters.
The Physical Education and Games programmes are designed to complement the extra-curricular sporting activities on offer at school and there are comprehensive fixture lists across all major sports. One of the most successful initiatives over recent years has been the provision of major sporting tours to Canada, South Africa, Australia, Ireland and the Caribbean. Junior teams have also regularly undertaken tours throughout the country. We feel it has been crucial to expose our youngsters to higher standards through touring. It is an aim to maintain and develop this ethos across more of our major sports in the future.
As well as the obvious benefits for health and active lifestyles, Truro School’s emphasis on sport recognises the importance of social well-being, the relationship between physical activity and academic achievement and motivation of pupils, alongside values of determination, commitment and loyalty.
