2006-2007 : Fifty seven school concerts in a year
Music at Truro School is enjoying an exciting phase of expansion and rising standards under the leadership of Director of Music Martin Palmer.
Fifty seven concerts during the last academic year included a performance of Messiah in Truro Cathedral, a Symphony Orchestra in the school chapel, a Wind Band concert, a combined concert with other Methodist schools at Methodist Central Hall in London, and an International Youth Gala Concert in Truro Methodist Church. The Senior Jazz Band played at the Hall for Cornwall with the National Jazz Orchestra in a packed concert that also featured the newly-formed Samba Band.
The Senior Choir sang in St Mark’s Basilica in Venice as well as St Paul’s Cathedral, London and Truro Cathedral (appearing live on BBC Radio 4). 10 pupils played for the County Youth Orchestra and 5 performed with the County Youth Jazz Orchestra.
Music as a classroom subject is taught along the lines of the National Curriculum to First, Second and Third Form pupils and is an option for GCSE and A-level.
In addition to this, Truro School offers the opportunity for pupils to participate in a full Symphony Orchestra, String Orchestra, Wind Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra, Junior Choir, Senior Choir and various Ensembles such as Brass Ensemble, String Quartets, a Samba Band, Trios and various Woodwind Groups. During the school year many of these groups perform in public.
Individual tuition is available to all pupils in the complete range of orchestral instruments as well as piano, organ, guitar and voice.
