Guidelines on dress and appearance: boys and girls.

Note the general rule “Eccentricities of dress and appearance are not allowed”.

Staff reserve the right to make judgements about this.

1. HAIR should be neat and conventional. Idiosyncratic styles that draw attention are not acceptable. Ostentatious hair ornaments are not allowed. It is recommended that for health and safety reasons, long hair is tied back.

2. Boys should always be clean-shaven.

3. Boys’ trousers should be black or dark-grey, formal and hold a crease. Jeans are not acceptable, nor are designs which are exceptionally baggy, or worn very low on the hips, or in any way “fashion items”.

4. Girls’ kilts should not be worn too short or rolled up; just above the knee is acceptable.

5. Jewellery:

Yrs 1-5 Boys may not wear any visible jewellery.

Yrs 1-5 Girls may not wear any visible jewellery other than one pair of small sleeper ear-rings or studs only. Clear nail-varnish only.

6. Shirts must be tucked in, buttoned at the neck and the tie tied properly. Coloured or otherwise "visible" t-shirts may not be worn under shirts. The girls’ regulation fitted blouse may be worn over the kilt.

7. Any form of visible body-piercing or tattooing is prohibited.

8. Blazers : Below the 6th Form, blazers must be worn to and from school, and during the working day. During lessons staff may allow pupils to remove blazers while they are being taught, but they must put them on again to move about the school between lessons.
