This week spelling expert Sally Raymond, author of Spelling Rules, Riddles and Remedies, visited Truro Prep School to work with pupils from pre-prep and prep.
Each small group played spelling games, such as ‘Dicey Spellings’, learned how to create mnemonics with meaning, and explored how drawing picture clues can help make spelling memory permanent. These strategies can be used in school and at home.
After school, Sally delivered an inset session to teachers from the Pre-Prep, Prep, and Truro School.
Sally Raymond has worked as a teacher, a spelling tutor and a course manager delivering teacher-training courses for learning difficulties. She has also run courses for parents of dyslexic children and provided consultancy advice to schools, colleges and the workplace.
Spelling Rules, Riddles and Remedies is helpful for anyone supporting learners who are struggling to understand the world of English spellings, at school or at home.
