Pupils Impress at Under 11 County Hockey Tournament

Under 11 Girls’ Tournament

Congratulations to the Under 11 Girls’ Hockey team, who have qualified to represent Cornwall at the West Hockey finals on Tuesday 19 April at Millfield School, Somerset.
Due to the increased number of entries this year, the girls played in a round-robin event, against five different teams, winning their matches against Truro High School ‘B’, St. Breock School, King Charles School and Tregadillet School but drawing 1-1 with the eventual winners – Truro High A team.

The girls played extremely well and fully deserved their qualification for the regional round.

Under 11 Boys’ Tournament

Well done to the Under 11 Boys’ Hockey team, who recently competed in the Under 11 Boys’ County Hockey tournament, held at Truro School.
Due to the number of teams, nine teams in total this year, the schools were divided into two sections, with the top two schools from each section progressing to a semi-final. The boys played extremely well in their first match, scoring several goals to win 4-0 against St Merryn, then winning a close match with Charlestown 1-0.

Unfortunately, they made some mistakes in their next match, which they eventually lost to St. Breock, although they still progressed as group runners-up into the semis. Their last group match had turned out to be a crucial match, as it emerged that they would now face Callington in the semi-finals. It was a high quality match, with our team rising to the challenge of a more experienced opposition, finishing with a respectable 0-1 defeat.
