Prep Sports Day 2017

The heats on the track were tighter than ever, the tunes were terrific and the weather was balmy. A significant sports day: all children participated in all of the different events, regardless of ability. The values of excellence, respect, inspiration, determination and fairness were evident everywhere.

This year, we seamlessly incorporated finals for track events, allowing many new track records to be set. We also included several new events: the inter-house tug of war and cycling relays.

Success was everywhere and not simply with the medal winners. It was brilliant to see the children encouraging and supporting each other within their houses. A number of long-standing records were broken or equalled in high jump and in the 60m hurdles.

Thank you to all the parents who attended, supporting the different track and field events so enthusiastically. It was a fun and memorable occasion for all involved. We are also truly grateful for all of the lovely feedback we have received from parents about the day; in particular, a photo from one parent of the high jump event, showing pupils encouraging and supporting their child. We loved this…

Here is a snapshot of sports day from the children’s perspective:

 ‘I love running.’ (Anna)

 ‘My house is cool.’ (Henry)

‘Sports day is such fun.’ (Joshua)

‘I liked the cycling relays.’ (Charlie)

‘My favourite thing was the tug of war.’ (Ben)

Finally, a heartfelt thank you to all of the teaching staff, who without any grumbling, helped with an endless variety of sports day tasks; measuring, timing, recording, announcing, organising and prize giving. In particular, two pupils who were helpful all day: Jasmine (Year 4) and Alice (Year 3).

Congratulations to all of the children who competed in Sports Day 2017 – you were all amazing!
