Prep retain Cornwall Schools’ Cup at the Junior Chess Championships!

The Cornwall Junior Championships were held at Penair School on Sunday 19th March 2017.

Leading the Prep squad was Adam, winning the Cornwall Under 11 Championship with 6 out of 6 to add to his Under 14 and Under 12 Titles!

Four played in the very competitive Under 11 Section, Oliver and Jon (who showed great commitment having represented Cornwall at a Fencing competition in Stratford the day before as well) reached qualification for the Megafinal in May, with William winning three games. Six Truro Prep students played in the Under 9s; Jack and Myla shared 1st place with five wins each.

Inigo kept improving to finish third and Best Under 8. Not far behind were Charlie and Ben and Jessica, Year 2, won a book prize. The Prep also retained the Cornwall Schools Cup awarded for the best four player total and with a first, two seconds and the joint thirds we scored a resounding 20.5 out of a possible 24!

Congratulations to all ten for representing Truro School so well, thanks to the parents for staying to support the squad and also to my D of E assistant Zak, who has trained and encouraged all of our prizewinners.
