Prep Headmaster’s Blog – 29 April – Bees, Trees and Sporting Success

After a lovely sunny Easter break, how nice to return to school to discover some super individual achievements reflecting the diversity of talents to be found amongst the pupils.

Taekwondo Success

Well done to Joe Leek for gaining his Black Belt in Taekwondo, an extraordinary achievement for his age.

Future Actor

Misha Tunstall-Behrens has been acting in Doc Martin, filming for which took place last week in Port Issaac. He was also lucky enough to be in Poldark and the Kelly’s ice cream advert which is on TV at the moment.

British Youth National Fencing Championships

And in the British Youth National Fencing Championships at Moulsford School, our under 10’s team won the team medal, with Melissa Jane gaining the bronze medal and Lexie Craze winning the gold for the under 10 girls and Sam Cox winning the gold for the Under 10’s boys; two UK champions!

Bee Keeping

Many of you will know that I have recently undertaken a course in Bee Keeping and consequently we are hoping to establish a colony or two of bees at the school. These will be arriving on Wednesday 6th May and will be kept well away from any of the areas used by the pupils (in my garden at school), but please do let me know if you have any concerns about this, as it is not yet too late for me to make alternative arrangements.

New Apple Trees

The first five apple trees of our new orchard were planted yesterday and over the course of this term the pupils, particularly those in Year Five, will be helping to plant up to thirty trees.

The trees have been supplied by Trevenna Cross Nursery in Breage (just beyond Helston) and as a gesture of goodwill, the Nursery have given us some vouchers; these are available in the Reception Office for any parent who feels they could make use of them.

PGL Adventure Trip

Finally, good luck to Year 5 who set off for Beam House in North Devon today for their PGL adventure trip. I know we’re going to have a super and, judging by the weather this morning, quite a muddy time.
