Polwhele House Cross Country Event on Saturday 7 March 2015
Congratulations to everyone who competed in the cross country event at Polwhele House last weekend. All of the children who have attended cross country club over the past two terms were invited to run, as well as children who had finished in the top five in the inter-house cross country races.
There were also competitors from six other local schools. It is a tricky multi-terrain course, with our U9s racing over 1000m and U11s over 1500m, of hilly woodland. The combined year group races added to the challenge for our Year 3 and 5 runners, who were competing against children an age group older than themselves.
Our U9 teams did extremely well over the muddy, testing course. Finishing in the top ten in the girls’ race were Lexie Craze (5th), Lucy Mantle (6th) and Emily Gordon-Brown (7th) and in the boys’ race – Jamie Beaman (8th). Congratulations to Henry Hocking, who has been awarded a spot prize (runner’s water bottle), for his fantastic progress this year.
Our U11 teams were outstanding. Finishing in the top ten in the boys’ race were Milo Charles (2nd), Max Cooper (4th), Jason Ayliffe (6th) and Finn Ellemann (9th). In the girls’ race, Gwen Crees (5th), Joanna Vyvyan (6th) and Evelyn Heather (9th) all looked impressive and finished in the top ten. Congratulations to Max Cooper and Joanna Vyvyan, who have both been awarded spot prizes for their brilliant performances (water bottles) – as they still have another year in this age group.
Cross country club is on Fridays after-school and all abilities are very welcome. Coose Trannack (near Helston) Cross country races are coming up, on Saturday 21 March, with races for children from Year 6 to Reception. Details are available from the school office.
