Netball Summary – Week Beginning 1 February 2016

Under 12B vs Polwhele A – Lost 5-12

Truro Under 12B went out with true grit and determination against Polwhele. The girls had some fantastic fast passing which moved down court well. The positioning of Izzie was really strong and made the centre court players move into the space. Although the girls lost the overall game 12-5 there was some really positive play to take forward. The defence team of the two Sophie’s and Emma had some brilliant interceptions and supported the play down court. A great first outing for some of the girls.

U12A vs Truro High School – Lost 17-20

In the first quarter Truro School struggled to prevent Truro High School getting the ball to their key player in the circle. In the subsequent quarters the team focused on tight defence to minimise the opportunities THS had in giving an easy overhead ball, although THS maintained their lead the various combinations that took to the court for Truro school each gave 100%.

Under 13 vs Truro High School – Lost 21-26

This was a fabulous game with all 10 squad players getting lots of court time and trying out various combinations; many new to the girls. Truro played some excellent netball but made too many unforced errors. The shooting statistics were very good from Ella and Rosie. The score going into the last quarter was 16 all. THS kept on their strongest combination whilst we continued to share play; unfortunately the High School threw the long ball into their tall shooters and we could not respond resulting in a loss on this occasion. The girls should not be disappointed as we learnt a lot from this game.

Under 12 vs Plymouth College – Won 28-6

Plymouth College were an unknown quantity for the girls. They were nervous before going on court but took complete control of the game from the start.  Playing the girls in various combinations made them adapt their game each quarter, but they were always in control coming out 28 – 6 winners.

Under 13 vs Plymouth College – Won 42-2

Truro restricted Plymouth to just two shots all game and, behind the pinpoint accuracy and fluid movement of the shooters, and Antonia in particular, kept the scoreboard ticking over to record a dominant win.

Under 14 vs Plymouth College – Won 24-7

After a good solid warm up Truro made a strong start to the match and with excellent circle play between Molly and Harriet took a 10-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, the team were making a lot of unforced passing errors, so the team concentrated on this for the reminder of the match improving with every quarter. All players played really well and secured a well deserved win. Molly B was awarded player of the match by the opposition, well done everyone.

Under 16 vs Plymouth College – Won 62-9

The Under 16s dominated from the first whistle despite only having 7 players; all players rotated and played out of position. Jasmine was voted player of the match. Coaches player of the match was Natasha.

Under 18 vs Plymouth College – Won 36-22

Plymouth arrived a player short for their two senior teams, so our subs helped out. In fact in the end all 4 of our subs were being used – 3 for Plymouth and 1 for our Under 16s! Truro took a long time to settle with lots of unforced errors and a lack of drive. Things picked up in the second half and Truro pulled away, especially in the last quarter with super play from Laura and Mollie in the shooting circle.
