Nationally Qualified Swimming Coach comes on Board

We are delighted to announce the new appointment of Head Swimming Coach, Lee Stanbury. With over 25 years of experience as a qualified and award-winning Swimming Coach, Lee has built up extensive knowledge in swimming development programmes, and hopes to make his mark at Truro School.

Lee joins the school with a hugely successful track record in coaching, having previously received nominations for Sports Coach of the Year in both Cornwall and Gloucester. He says it was Truro School’s Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre, which includes a 25 metre competition swimming pool that first attracted him to the role. Lee says:

“The school’s facilities are outstanding and ripe for development. I will be working to develop all swimmers’ abilities by sharing my wealth of swimming experience and knowledge and by introducing a new understanding of swimming performance and skills.”

Lee’s skills also stretch beyond the pool; he is a personal trainer, regular contributor for Swimming Times magazine and author of successful books ‘Complete Guide to Surf Fitness and Performance’ and ‘Surfer Girl Guide to Fitness’. Lee’s students will not only benefit from his extent of knowledge on the sport, but on his own personal experience having competed at the European Masters Championships and British Swimming Championships.

Whilst currently being Swim Director at the Cornish Swim Academy, amongst many other roles, Lee’s commitment to the future of swimming at Truro School is certain to be of encouragement to the students, helping them reach the highest of their abilities.

Truro School’s Head of Physical Education, Zoe Jobling, said, “These are very exciting times for swimming at Truro School. Over the past 3 years we have built up the schools’ swim programme and this year took nine teams to the South West Swimming Finals, including 2 senior teams for the first time. With the appointment of Mr Stanbury as Head Coach, the future is looking even brighter for our pupils’ further successes.”
