Hockey Update – 3 November to 10 November

Tuesday 3 November – Under 18 Girls Regional Finals

After an early start the girls travelled to Kings College in Taunton after becoming runners up in the County Tournament. We knew we had tough opposition ahead and after losing two of our key players to other commitments we knew we had a tough battle ahead. We played Canford, Taunton and Exeter each games were 15 minutes each way so not a huge amount of hockey but we knew at this level it was going to be fast and intense. The girls came out strong against all three opponents, they were powerful and held the ball well. We had a number of chances but were unable to finish them. All of our opponents took their chances when they had any, they were strong on the ball and worked well as a team. The pace was quick and at another level. Our girls held their heads high and put 110% effort and hard work in but in the end it wasn’t our day, we did come away with losing all three games. The girls played well and did the County proud, we now know what we need to work on and what we need to do to advance to the next level for next year! Well Done Girls!

Wednesday 4 November – Under 12a Girls vs Newquay Tretherras

The girls started out very strong, pressing the ball in all areas of the pitch when they were defending. When they attacked, they attacked with force and power, they made the ball do the work the majority of the time but there was also some lovely individual skill play from some talented players on the team. The girls played simple hockey working in triangles and using wall passes, they didn’t force the ball forward they waited for the gaps to appear after moving the ball around first in order to create the space. Goal after goal came, the girls were playing amazing, so I made them play 3 touch for the last 5 minutes, doing this helps with awareness and support all over the pitch. More goals were to follow with the score ending a 7-0 Win! Was a great game to watch and some awesome hockey was played!

Tuesday 10 November-First Year Hockey Festival A Girls Teams

With 11 teams entering this mini festival both Truro School teams got placed in the bigger group and were set to face each other. The girls were ready and raring to go, with a good warm up, it was set to be a positive two hours ahead. The games were only 5 minutes long so right from the off the girls threw themselves into everything they had, pushing forward to try and get as many goals as possible. They battled throughout each game putting 110% effort and hard work into each match. It was a lot of pressure to get a goal and try and win the game in 5 minutes, it was end to end stuff in most games but we did manage to get the goals to put us through to the final where we faced Truro High School A team. Knowing this would be a tough game it was only another 5 minutes to press hard and come out on top. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be, the High school got a lucky break and took their chance followed by winning a short and scoring it as the final whistle went. The girls played well and I was extremely proud of their performance throughout the afternoon, Well Done Girls!
