Introduction

The purpose of the society is to bring together parents and staff at the schools.  It is run by a committee composed of parent representatives, the Headmasters, school staff, a Governor and a member of the Former Pupils Association.

With children at Truro School and Truro School Prep. parents are automatically members of the Society.  A small annual subscription is added to the Spring Term school bill: £15 per annum for Family Membership, which is charged to the eldest sibling.

The Society runs a variety of fund-raising social events throughout the year.

At the Friends’ AGM on 10th November 2011 Chairperson, Kate Arter reported on another busy year including the contribution of £10,000 to the refurbishment of the Heseltine Gallery in the Senior School and over £7,000 raised at the anonymous art auction in May for the Sella project in Sierra Leone. She also reported on the change of name from Truro Schools’ Society (TSS) to Friends of Truro School (FTS or FoTs!) and a change in emphasis in the coming year - to deliver more social events aimed at bringing together the communities in all the schools, with less emphasis on fund-raising. Accordingly, a further £12,000 is being distributed by the Friends between the schools to support further refurbishment work in the Heseltine Gallery (including the purchase of an upright piano for this area which will enable small recitals and events to be held here) as well as additional funding for the new Outdoor Learning Space and Play Area at the Prep School.

In October we held another well attended quiz and curry night to raise funds for the wind band tour to Lake Garda. In December the Christmas Fair was held at the Senior school and was also a great success with parents, staff and pupils from both schools participating.

The Friends have also contributed £5,000 to enable Rev Aubin de Gruchy and his team of helpers to stage “The Methodist Art Collection” which will be displayed in the Heseltine Gallery from 23rd February until 8th April. And, thanks to the support of parents like Felicia Sheingold, we continue to run the Second Hand Uniform Shop at Poltisco House.

We are planning more distributions of funds and events over the coming year including, much later in the year, drinks after Speech Day at the senior school when we hope you will come and join us for a glass of Pimm’s!
