Class of 64 Former Pupils Reunion

On Saturday 1 October the 4th Reunion of the Class of 62- 64 took place at Truro School.

This group of former pupils started Truro School in 1957, some aged 11, some aged 13 and a number were entered into the “accelerated programme” – hence the variation in the “class of” year.

The first of these reunions took place in 1996 when the group celebrated reaching the age of 50(ish) and was brought together mainly by the efforts of Mr Richard Stevenson.  After meeting again in 2006 aged 60 they all decided they should make this event 5 yearly and agreed upon 2011 for the 3rd reunion.   A total of 56 gathered on Saturday 1 October, including former pupils, their wives and partners, former teaching and former support staff, joined by Truro School’s current headmaster, Andrew Gordon Brown.

The day began at noon, meeting in the School Chapel, welcomed by Nicky Berridge, Development and Alumni Relations Manager and Headmaster, Andrew Gordon-Brown hosted lunch in the Heath Dining Hall.  The attendees had travelled from far and wide – Australia, Canada and New Zealand as well as all over the UK including the Scilly Isles.  After being given a tour of the School by 4 very helpful boarders, some members of the party chose to watch the Truro School v Blundell’s School rugby match (won by Blundell’s) and others were treated to a guided tour around the City of Truro led by Mr Bert Biscoe, also a former pupil (CO71).

Everyone returned for pre-dinner drinks (courtesy of the TSFPA) followed by dinner at 7.30 pm – “A Celebration of Fare” created by Mr David Connolly and his catering team which was highly praised by everyone.   After the meal Mr Richard Stevenson was surprised by the guests with a large old school trunk filled with Cornish produce presented to him by his twin brother Mr Patrick Stevenson.  Mr Dave Richards (former pupil and former support staff member) also received a gift of an old school suitcase filled with “a few alcoholic treats”.  The gifts were given by their fellow former pupils as a sign of appreciation for all their work in bringing this long standing group of friends together.   The School hopes to welcome them all back again in another 5 years, or sooner if they so wish.

If you are also a member of this year group please get in touch as Richard Stevenson and friends are keen to make contact with any fellow pupils from this era.  See a list of former pupils below.
