A weekend of Cross Country success for Truro School

It has been another busy weekend for the Cross Country teams with the Cornwall County School races on Saturday and then a Cross Challenge in Cardiff for some on the Sunday.

The Truro school runners did themselves and the school proud at the Cornwall County School races, the first year boys and girls ran strongly with Joanna and Evie leading the girl’s team home and Finn ran particularly well coming in 4th position. The boys team coming in 2nd position.

In the Junior girls race Izzy ran very well to finish 8th with Scarlett (18th), Laura (22nd) and Millie (27th) also putting in good performances. This gave an overall team position of 2nd place. In the Junior Boys, Benjy ran a very good race despite having been ill all week and won the bronze medal. He was ably supported by Isaac (8th) Jacob (11th) and Sam (17th) scoring 39 points overall and winning the Team Gold.

The Intermediate girls also ran well with Alice leading the team home in 3rd place, Emily (11th), Lily (14th)and Scarlet (17th)  put in strong performances and also won the Team Gold. But the Intermediate boys put in the performance of the day. Not only winning the Team Gold but also taking all three podium places with Finn 1st, Harris 2nd and Alexander 3rd.

In the Senior girls race Olivia ran strongly and finished just outside the medals in 4th position.

From this the following have been selected to represent Cornwall in the South West Championships on Saturday 4th February at Truro School.

Finn, Izzy, Benjy, Isaac, Finn, Harris, Alexander and Olivia.

Leaving straight from the County Championships Finn and Harris travelled to Cardiff to run in the Cross Challenge. Harris running in the Under 15 race and Finn in the Under 17.  Harris was pushed very hard in what was his hardest race of the season so far. He stuck to his race plan and pulled away in the final straight to win by 10 seconds. Finn, running a year young, was also in a very strong field and was beaten into 3rd place by two international runners after running a very strong race.
